Spider101 said: I've got an A4 B9 1.4tfsi and on the myaudi app under service/additional work it lists camshaft drive toothed belt: renew every 140,000 miles. Spoken to my mechanic and he said the mileage is based on if you average 15k per year say. He said most timing belts don’t need replacing till at least 60k. All depends on the mileage.
This is VERY bad and at the very least will result in a valve job, if not the destruction of the engine. This is why changing the timing belt is one area of maintenance that should never be skipped or stretched out. Always replace the belt according to the vehicle's maintenance schedule. Audi recommends changing your timing belt every 100,000

On the 2.0T, TFSI (and TSI) the tensioner for the lower chain has a design defect that causes it to fail. When it fails, the timing chain skips a few teeth (timing is now wrong), and the valves can collide with the tops of the pistons, destroying your engine. This usually happens when you start the engine. Most of which had 190k +, and still on original tensioner. If proper oil change intervals are done they will last a long time. Also, depending on your skill level, it really only takes 1-2 hours to R&R the timing cover. So if you have to replace the tensioner down the road it’s really not that big of a deal. 2008 Audi S4 Avant (6 spd) + 2014 Audi Q7 TDI. •. This is correct. When replacing the timing chains, you replace the plastic chain guides with the metal RS4 guides. The plastic guides are the point of failurealways. I just bought (yesterday) my brother’s (original owner) 2008 B7 S4 Avant (6spd) with 118,000km. Yes, you can upgrade some of the guides. There are 3 chains, 2 time the 4 cams, and 1 times the other two with the crank. The 2 that time the cams are different, and cannot be replaced with rs4 parts, but the 1 that times the crank can be replaced with rs4 parts, and that’s the one that fails most often. 2.
The 4.2 found in b6/b7 s4's uses a timing chain that has to be replaced at 100k. The older b5 2.8tt motor uses belts that have to be done rought every 50-60k if i'm not mistaken. Both motors have to be pulled to replace these parts.
Hoping for some help. Car been for a service and technician an experienced guy, says the timing chain needs to be replaced as it is louder than it should be. not been changed since i owned it, a few years now. Timing belt has been done with original audi parts 2 years ago but no chain was done at the time. 5SRrAO.
